Report from Regional meeting
Keith gave a summary of the points brought up at the meeting.
- The national database for permit holders and assessors is now live. Unfortunately Keith does not have the required rights to upload the data from the county database and although he has asked for them he is still waiting. He also needs to be registered as MAPS (manager of the activity permit scheme).
- In Touch; this is the scheme that replaces home contact. This should be implemented, by all by September. It simplifies the existing scheme and enables leaders relatives to be home contacts. There is an “Emergency what to do” card which Keith handed to those present.
- Swimming rules there now needs to be a NGB qualified life saver on any swimming activity. Since this was implemented there has been an announcement that the rule is being reviewed again.
- It was asked for feedback as to whether there would be any interest in a nation assessors forum. It was agreed that it would be a good idea.
At the last meeting it agreed that a risk assessment pointers list be drawn up and available on the county website. Keith produced copies that were agreed with some minor alterations.
The w/e had been another success. It was agreed that we would hold another next year and that a separate meeting would be held to plan it. The planning team will decide on venue etc. A report is on the web and will be in county life.
The planning meeting for this will be at Tim Crowther’s house on Monday 26th July at 20:00.
Other workshops / events
The take up has been poor only 1 for the climbing, 3 for T1, 1 for T2, Chris reported that numbers are not known for the kayaking. Sub aqua; Andrew reported that there was one leader from the county on the forthcoming session and 2 others had been on other sessions.
There was some discussion as to why the take up was so low this year. Caroline is to try and get the county leader mailing list, so in future we can go straight to the leaders. As it was thought that county life is not getting the info out.
It was also agreed that an Activities bulletin be produce periodically and sent to that mailing list as well as county life.
The county climbers badge is 7-0 May at Bibby’s Farm. It was noted that it is the same date as the Kayak workshop.
There is to be a general meeting after the forthcoming Sport England snorkelling event to decide the way forward .
Andrew is to be giving a talk to the NW sub aqua regional AGM.
Who should be at these meetings
We discussed who should be at these meeting in view of the generally poor turn out. It was agreed that the minimum was at least one rep from each district and all assessors / instructors from the county. Keith will contact all DCs with a view to getting them to allocate a representative.
It was suggested that each meeting should have a slot for best practice of a specific activity, which would be of interest to all. It was thought that if the meetings were open to all this might help.
Clarify what permits mean
It was agreed that Keith would add to the website a page that explained what a permit was for, i.e. there was confusion as to what the difference between a personal climbing permit and a leadership permit was.
Hill walking consultation for HQ
Neil Wills who is UK Technical Adviser (Hillwalking) has asked for feedback on the permit scheme. It was agreed to have a meeting at GMN HQ for all three GM counties on Wednesday 29th Sept anyone interested in the scheme should attended and voice their views.
