The GME weekends are run at Linnet Clough and normally held in the Norlog Building.
Some things are centrally organised in advance for all courses:
- Bookings with Linnet Clough
- Initial staffing of the course
- Confirmations and joining instructions
- Follow up email with resources and evaluation form
- We will also this year be undertaking a project to develop inclusive training; this may effect arrangements centrally
The training organiser (learning manger/course director) before the event will need to:
- review all module content and previous course plans and evaluations
- produce a weekend learning plan, with learning and activities presented in a logical sequence, with opportunities for learning checks, reflection and participant interaction
- meet all the team (tutors, presenters, caterers and training assistants) to brief them on the plan, discuss learning outcomes with tutors, assign sessions (not necessarily whole modules) to presenters and discuss other requirements
- ensure team can attend all weekend
- review presenters session plans and associated tutors briefing notes
- share final session plans and associated tutors briefing notes with all presenters and tutors
- arrange any resources
- take account of the skills identified through the trainers personal learning plan
The training organiser (learning manger/course director) during the event will need to:
- hold a briefing session on the Friday evening
- open up and arrange the facilities
- hold regular team meetings (2 Saturday, one Sunday) to review, recieve feedback from tutors and adjust plans
- welcome participants, cover domestics, expectations and introduce team
- ensure that approriate intergartion activity takes place either in the form of specific activities or preferably built into the initial sessions
- with the help of the tutors, monitor individuals learning and experience
- advice tutors on group development and dynamics
- lead on linking sessions, ensuring everyone is prepared, time is kept approriatly and needs are met
- write witness statements for new presenters and discuss feedback, ensuring learning is active and engaging
- refocus learning as required by working guiding presenters and tutors
- ensure that the Dingle room remains alcohol free and available for participant use in the evening
- debrief team
- review evaluations collected post session and review with manager
- this role does not require you to present sessions
The tutors before the event will:
- attend the staff briefings
- familirise themselves with the weekend learning plan and tutors briefing notes as they become available
- facilitate the tutor group and their dynamics
- encourage group development
- refocus as necessary
- do not be afraid of sitting back as required
- if misconceptions occur, refer to the session presenter
- take account of the skills identified through the trainers personal learning plan
The presenters before the event will:
- attend the staff briefings
- prepare and share session plans
- take account of the skills identified through the trainers personal learning plan
- undertake an informal evaluation of the learning from the session
