How to complete the training?

Training is an essential requirement of these roles and needs completing within 3 years.  If needed, this should be prioritised over other Scouting activities so the young people can continue to enjoy safe, sound and fun Scouting.

The training scheme for everyone helping with Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Network is planned as modules. The modules completed depend upon your role. Each module will require validating; completing some tasks showing you can do this element. Learning is available for modules to build skills, knowledge and understanding for each element.

Step one: Plan your learning, with your Training Adviser using a personal learning plan will guide you to which modules you require and together plan your learning. You can also make use of the Leader's Training Guide, which includes features such as Your Learning Review Tool

Step two: Complete your learning by your preferred method, take account of how you learn best and your lifestyle; most modules offer more than one option: online video, residential courses, module sessions, workbooks and small group work. Click here to book onto County courses and find out about the available learning methods for each module.

Step three: Validate your modules; using your skills gained in your Scouting. Simply demonstrating you can do all aspects of your role. The Getting Started modules need to be validated within 5 months. The Section Leader modules will be validated by your Training Adviser. Click here for a guide for vaildating modules and receiving your Wood Badge.

Your Training Adviser will guide you through this process. If you do not have a Training Adviser agreed, then attend the Getting Started drop in PLP & validation sessions to get started!
