InTouch is the scheme used to ensure good communications at Scout activities and events. When running a Scouting activity the scheme should be in place. This could any activity ranging from a Beaver Scout games night at your local meeting place to a 3 week Explorer Scout or Scout Network Expedition and anything and everything in between.
The system could not be simpler and helps to ensure safety of Scouts. We need to think about four everyday common sense points. They are:
1) During an event how will you communicate with parents
2) During an event how will the parents communicate with you
3) How will parents and young people communicate with each other
4) How will you contact your local Commissioner in the case of an emergency
If the event is being led by young people such as a Duke of Edinburgh expedition further consideration should be taken into
- How leaders and participants will communicate
More information can be found here.
In order to give some guidance we have provided some examples for different circumstances below.
- A weekly section meeting
- A fun day or other day activity
- A week long Scout camp in a neighbouring County
- An international trip
- A Network weekend social and activity event
- A Duke of Edinburgh expedition
- A County caving team (County Scout Active Support Unit) caving weekend to train and assess member
- A County/District event for Groups/Sections to attend (e.g. large Cub fun day, District Scout Camp) For the event organiser
