Lots more 8 year olds join Cub Scouts across East Manchester

The analysis of this years membership data reveals another success story and the popularity of Scouting in Manchester.

Cub Scouting is growing faster in East Manchester than many other areas across the UK. This rate of growth is excellent and demonstrates how focused and hard our Cub Scout Leaders, Group Scout Leaders and District teams are working at ensuring more young people can join Scouting.

Why does growth matter?

Firstly, young people join Scouting for the adventure, and they leave if they don’t get it. If Scouting is growing, it means that more young people are joining than leaving.

Secondly, growth enables us to do more – to provide better Scouting to more young people. Bigger numbers enables more ambitious camps; additional subscription revenue enables us to buy more equipment.

And lastly, being part of a growing organisation gives us all a buzz – the feel-good factor. Everyone wants to be part of something successful and we will recruit and retain more adult leaders.

What is next for us?

There are plenty more young people to join Scouting.  We do have locally a lower than expected children taking part in Cub Scouts and as a further analysis has shown we need to focus upon keeping Cubs of 9 years of age.
